Shark Shack

At Shark Shack, the motto is, "Come for the food, stay for the party!" This exciting establishment is located right in the heart of the Strand, just a mile from the cruise ship docks. Perfect for watching sports or outdoor dining, this restaurant is a popular hotspot on the island. On the weekend, they crank up the music so it really is a party!

From the outside, this restaurant is tough to miss. Lining the exterior wall is a colorful and beautiful mural depicting an ocean scene. There is a seahorse, whale, turtle, jellyfish, and other sea creatures featured; kids will love it! Additionally, it makes for a great photo spot in the Strand. Also, the restaurant has a prime location at the end of the street. As for parking, there are a few spaces along the Strand. If you have no luck with those, there are public parking lots close by, just a short walking distance away.

There are dining options both outside and inside Shark Shack. Most of the tables are meant for a party of 4-6. The restaurant itself goes back quite a way, but it is not very wide. Expect a short wait on the busy weekends. The bar top is long, with self-seating and room for about 15 people.

The laid-back atmosphere is perfect for families, while larger groups often choose the roomy patio for lively conversation. As the evening sets in, string lights overhead create a welcoming glow, turning the place into a relaxing spot after hours on the beach. With surfboard tables and shark murals, the decor brings plenty of fun without ever feeling over the top—just right for snapping a few memorable photos.

You’ll find Shark Shack has the feel of a beach party, but never loses its relaxed, island vibe. Families dig into seafood baskets while couples cool off with frozen margaritas. The atmosphere makes everyone feel at home, reflecting Galveston’s laid-back spirit and offering a truly local dining experience.

Shark Shack: Menu & Drinks

For starters, we recommend the Shark Bites, a Shark Shack specialty! You can choose between 5 and 8. It features cheese-stuffed and bacon-wrapped shrimp, fried and brushed with BBQ sauce. These are a fabulous finger food.

Also, we highly recommend the drunken boneless wings. They're more like chicken tenders and they are delicious!

Shark Shack is ranked #1 on many lists for their famous fish tacos! There are a few options for seafood tacos on the menu, but the Texas Red Fish Tacos are considered a favorite. You can order the fish broiled or blackened. Toppings include chipotle sauce, coleslaw, and Jack cheese!

Another popular finger-food option is the house hush puppies, located in the soups & sides section. These are delicious, fried cornbread bites served with honey butter!

You can never go wrong with a burger at Shark Shack, especially this one! The Cali Beach Burger includes avocado, bacon, Swiss cheese, and chipotle mayo. With one bite, it will become the specialty handheld on your Galveston getaway!
