About
Located near the Historic District or the Strand are various notable businesses. One of the cafes you can't miss trying is the Maceo Spice & Import Company shop on Market St. This counter cafe offers Italian sandwiches, soups, and daily lunch specials.
The grocery store itself carries a wide range of high-quality ingredients. From meats and cheeses to their famous spices. Maceo's stocks their shelves with items from all over the world! According to their website, Maceo originally stocked its shelves so chefs could view them as they placed their orders. Today, Maceo's is both a wholesale and retail store and a cafe.
Keep in mind that aside from the staples they always have on hand, their meat selection varies every week. Furthermore, considering the quality of spices, they are reasonably priced, ranging from around $6 per container. Some other specialty items you may find here include olive oil, coffee, and teas.
If you choose to dine in, there is seating at the counter or in the center area booths. Additionally, there are plenty of cafeteria-style tables outside lining the front and side of the building. Outside, there is also a very striking mural painted on the wall. This would make for an excellent photo spot!
Maceo's goal is to provide customers with the finest products available. You can bet they use only the best in their cafe items as well. Though the menu is on the smaller side, their food packs a punch! Get ready for the largest sandwiches you've ever seen!
Vibe
This Galveston hot spot features a unique blend of charm and history. The exterior is understated yet inviting, hinting at the treasures inside. While it's easy to miss, it's also well worth seeking out!
The interior is warm with the aromatic scent of fresh spices and herbs. Here, old-world charm and functional simplicity unite, showcasing shelves jam-packed with spices, olive oils, pastas, and other gourmet goods. The unpretentious decor keeps the focus on the products and the experience rather than on flashy design. It's a cross between a spice market and a neighborhood deli, with a touch of nostalgia.
Seating is limited but thoughtfully arranged, with a few small tables and a counter with stools. The outdoor patio is popular on sunny days, adding to the allure of visiting. No matter where you sit, you'll find that the setting is ideal for quick bites.
The vibe is laid-back and welcoming, inviting diners to savor delicious muffalettas and browse unique culinary finds. Whether you’re a foodie or seeking a relaxed spot for lunch, Maceo Spice & Import Company offers a one-of-a-kind experience that’s as flavorful as its spices.
